It was great to welcome back everyone from spring break. Everyone looked relaxed and ready to get started with learning for the next 3 months. The students were excited to share a bit of what kept them busy over the break.
We will be focussing a lot of our literacy time on story writing. Today the students participated in writing a "circle story" with their table group. Ask your child how we did this and what their story was about. Tomorrow we will look at how to describe setting.
We started our next math unit: fractions. Today using paper strips the students folded paper and showed different fractions. They learned what the numerator (top number) and denominator (bottom number) in a fraction means Ask your child what they learned about fractions. Ask them to draw you and color 1/4, 1/2, or 2/3 of rectangles.
The class went to the library today and everyone is being encouraged to read chapter books at this stage of grade 3. Please encourage this reading habit at home.
We started discussing, very briefly our next Science unit on Rocks and Minerals. It was interesting to learn what they think they know about this subject. We will explore more as the weeks go by.
On Monday, we go to the Glenbow Museum to participate in their Rocks and Minerals program. Many of you returned forms today and thank you for that. I am missing 6 forms and 10 families still need to pay $18 for the trip. Please do this online.
I have lots of volunteers so thank you again to everyone that has indicated they would like to come with us. I will send home forms for you tomorrow.
