A new week means a new set of reader's theatres and forming new groups to practice reading scripts. The students were quite excited to get started and you could even hear people practicing different accents as they read aloud.
We looked at the 5 ways to write a strong and creative beginning. Using real books in our classroom the students identify the technique that the author used. Then on their own the students practiced using on the of the 5 ways to start to write a beginning to a story.
One of our students returned from a surprise trip to Disneyland and prepared a journal to share with us. We took some time to have him read and tell us all about this special trip.
We continue to work on the times tables for mental math. One of our students is on the 4X tables. I encourage everyone to continue working on these at home for a short time. For math, we had a jumpstart sheet--which reviews the concepts that we have covered up to this point in grade 3.
For Social we read about the environment in Ukraine and how it compares with Alberta. They are both prairies and the people are mostly farmers. We also watched a short video about Viola Desmond, the first Canadian woman to be celebrated on a Canadian dollar bill.
We finished our day practicing our drum sequence. We are ready to share it with the school and parents on Wednesday at 2:30 and then at 6:30. Students will be asked to meet in our classroom at 6:15. Hope you can make it as they are super excited!!
